Learning coding

Want to learn coding in the new year? For those who want to pick up this highly useful skill, there’s a number of great and free(!) resources online to get you going. A current favourite of mine (and my girlfriend) is Exercism. This is a website full of practical coding exercises, where you follow a track for the language you want to learn and receive mentorship from members of the community for every core exercise you solve. In addition to the core exercises, there are also a bunch of side exercises of varying difficulty.

Another cool resource I just discovered is Upcase by thoughtbot. This is mainly focused on Ruby, unlike Exercism which has a boatload of language tracks.

Would be great to hear about other websites dedicated to improving coding skills!
